Overview

The story

A private half-day charter across Europe's most cinematic bay.

Boka Bay is often described as the Mediterranean's only fjord — a deep, twisting inlet ringed by limestone mountains, dotted with medieval towns and, at its narrowest points, only a few hundred metres wide. The single best way to read it is from the water, and this private motor-boat charter is the definitive half-day experience.

Morning — departure from Kotor. After a hotel pickup on the bay, we meet a private motor boat at the Kotor waterfront (or, on request, at Perast, Tivat or Herceg Novi). A short safety briefing, and we cast off into the inner bay with the walls of Kotor falling away behind us.

Mid-morning — Our Lady of the Rocks. We cross to the twin islands off Perast: the natural St George's Island, closed to visitors, and the man-made Our Lady of the Rocks, built stone by stone by local sailors over three centuries. A guided visit inside the church takes in the extraordinary silver votive plaques, the seascape paintings and the local legend of the icon that inspired the island's creation.

Late morning — Perast. A short mooring at Perast itself, one of the Adriatic's most beautifully preserved small towns — a single street of Baroque palazzi and stone churches at the foot of the mountain. Time for coffee on the waterfront, a short walking loop through the town, and a photograph from the campanile of Saint Nicholas.

Midday — the Blue Cave. Weather permitting, we continue out past the Verige strait to the Blue Cave on the Luštica peninsula — a sea grotto whose interior water glows an electric blue under midday light. A swim inside the cave (life jackets provided) is a signature Boka experience.

Return — a swim stop and Verige strait. On the return, we anchor in a quiet cove for a longer swim, then transit slowly back through the narrow Verige strait — with the old defensive chain towers still visible on both shores — for the final approach to Kotor.

How it runs. Private motor boat with professional captain; life jackets and swim equipment on board; entrance fee to Our Lady of the Rocks; bottled water and light refreshments. Departures from late April through mid-October; full-day extensions and sunset charters available on request.
