Overview

The story

Al Wadi is a 500-hectare protected reserve on the outskirts of Ras Al Khaimah where the desert is managed like a national park. The falconry programme is run by resident master falconer Peter Bergh and his team, who fly Harris hawks, sakers and peregrines on a rotating basis. You walk out to the flight arena in the late afternoon, hear the birds worked one at a time — recall from a lure, then live prey demonstrations — and end with the salukis, the traditional Arabian sight-hound. It is the least theatrical falconry experience in the UAE and the most educational. The reserve's Ritz-Carlton Al Wadi Desert villas surround the arena; day guests can add lunch at one of the resort restaurants.
